Tomatoes are fruits. They are used in many recipes and in making tomato salad. They are good sources of vitamins A & C, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorous.

Tomatoes do not contain cholesterol and are therefore heart friendly. They are excellent for improving eyesight, strengthening bones and regulating blood pressure.

In salads, tomatoes can be served alone or mixed with other vegetables. In the following salad, we will prepare tomatoes with cucumber slices and avocado.

Avocados contain carotenoids and monounsaturated fats. They are rich in fiber, vitamins K, B6, C and E, copper, potassium and folic acid. They aid in cardiovascular support, protect against liver damage and have anti-inflammatory properties.

The best fruits and vegetables for making salads are those organically grown. This is because they are free from pesticides and therefore less likely to add toxins to the body.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/2 onion (red or white)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Ground pepper (optional)

Preparation:

  1.  Wash all the fruits and vegetables and chop them up in a bowl.
  2.  Add a pinch of salt and pinch of ground pepper.
  3.  Mix well and serve.

This tomato salad is very simple and takes less than 5 minutes to put together. It is very healthy as it provides many nutrients beneficial for good health.

You can use different varieties of tomatoes and in case of cherry tomatoes you can simply half them and add to the salad.

You can also add healthy oils like olive oil.

Adding a serving of tomato salad to any food be it breakfast, lunch or dinner is highly recommended. Green vegetables like lettuce and spinach can also be added for more nutrients.
